Hello dear friends — my name is Mark Gresin. I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1950. I founded Sun State HVAC — also known as Sun State Refrigeration — in 1979, and this is a brief look at how it all began.
Growing up, I was a hands-on, curious kid obsessed with fixing things. After serving honorably in the Air Force during the Vietnam era, I returned home and worked in my parents’ restaurant — Gross’ Delicatessen — which was well-known here in Phoenix.
That experience taught me two things: the importance of service, and how hard it was to find an HVAC company that understood the needs of restaurants — clean, precise, respectful, and reliable. That gap inspired me to start Sun State HVAC.
Built on Family, Grown on Integrity
My wife Dorena brought her incredible experience in office management and customer service to help build this business. Together we raised our son, Sean Gresin, who later joined the team and now helps lead Sun State HVAC into the next generation.
From day one, we’ve remained small by design — not because we couldn’t grow, but because we choose to stay close to our customers, honest in our pricing, and focused on the craft, not the sale.
Be careful who you trust. Big-name HVAC companies often spend tens or hundreds of thousands on ads — and guess who pays for that? You do. From jingles to flashy logos, their costs get passed onto your bill.
